Antonio Bazzini: Rêverie, Op. 34 no. 5

This is the second in a planned series of Bazzini pieces by Edson Scheid and Will Crutchfield. Information about the composer’s life and career can be found on the page for his Bavardage. The present Rêverie, composed about the same time, is in operatic form: a passionate aria in F minor with an ecstatic conclusion in F major. It was a favorite Romantic game-plan, A-B-A plus coda, which is used as well in most of the Nocturnes of Chopin and arias of Massenet. As far as we are aware, this is its first recording ever.
