About Journey Through Bel Canto

Bass-baritone Daniel Mobbs, one of America's true masters of Bel Canto, is well-known locally for more than a dozen appearances with Teatro Nuovo's predecessor program, Bel Canto at Caramoor.  A standout among them was the title role of Rossini's Guillaume Tell, hailed by The New York Times for "unassailable potency and assurance" and by Opera Today for a "thrilling dynamic portrayal and spellbinding tone." 

Mobbs has also appeared (often reprising his Caramoor roles) with The Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, the Polish National Opera (Warsaw), Opera Delaware, Opera Philadelphia, Portland Opera, Minnesota Opera, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Tanglewood Festival, and dozens more. 

Teatro Nuovo is thrilled to welcome him this year both as a soloist and as a faculty member, passing on the fruit of his experience to the young singers on our roster. At Greenwich Library he will be joined by pianist Rachelle Jonck and a select group of those singers, reprising scenes from his great Caramoor roles. The event is free and open to the public.  The immortal Rossini provides the core of the program, with visits to Bellini, Donizetti....and Stephen Foster. Come and renew your memories of Guillaume Tell, Semiramide, La Favorite, Il Barbiere di Siviglia and other great nights in which Dan has been a star!
